The renovation of Golf Club de Genève is about to get underway. We very much look forward to commencing our Project Management role, working very closely with the team from Golf Club de Genève including Charles Charmot, Head Greenkeeper and François Lautens, Director.
On Monday the 14th September, SOL Construction Ltd. will carry out a major renovation of the course. The original course on the outskirts of Geneva was designed by the legendary Golf Course Architect, Robert Trent Jones Snr. 42 years later, his son Robert Trent Jones Jnr is personally working with his team on the upgrading of the course. While the general routing will not change, technology over the last 40 years means the positioning of bunkers, shape and undulations of greens and some longer holes are necessary to keep Golf Club de Genève at the forefront of European golf.
It has been a very difficult summer with temperatures reaching 39 degrees Celsius during July and the relentless heat not abating until only two weeks ago. The main aim was to keep the grass alive as we prepared for the upcoming renovation work. Charles Charmot, has managed to do this and also make sure it was healthy, firm and fast for The ROLEX Trophy.
Phase 1 of the renovation will hopefully include 9 holes but this will very much depend on the ever changing Geneva weather. Greens, tees, drainage, irrigation and bunkers will all be renovated. We shall also be installing the SubAir to assist in regulating temperature and moisture in the greens.
After months of preparation we very much look forward to getting started.
