The 2015 Solheim Cup will be remembered for many reasons both sporting and otherwise but from a turf management standpoint none more so than the weather which constantly threatened the tournament.
After a record month of high temperatures and drought like conditions in July, the rainfall deficit was corrected, commencing the weekend before the tournament. Having spent almost 30 months drawing up the agronomic specifications, particularly climaxing playability of the course, it was soul destroying to see much of the hard work spoiled and as a result the intended finished product not truly realised.
Despite the angst of the greens team, the tournament officials, players and international media were complimentary of the playing surfaces produced, considering the environmental conditions. It was our great pleasure to collaborate with Carin Koch, Fanny Sunesson and Steve Kavanagh along with the team from Golf Club St. Leon-Rot on the delivery of the golf course for the biggest women’s golf tournament in the world.
