World’s best new golf course 2020
Nestled along the shoreline in central Vietnam, Hoiana Shores Golf Club is a breathtaking links course set on pristine dunes. Featuring a modern design with no shortage of coastal charm, the course seamlessly interacts with the East Sea, with five holes directly facing its waters.
Turfgrass® collaborated with Robert Trent Jones II, LLC, providing construction specifications and agronomic services for a new golf resort development on this UNESCO World Heritage Site. The unique links design, characterised by minimal vegetation and undulating dunes, necessitated specialised techniques to preserve the existing terrain. No material was imported for the development of the golf course. The result was a course that earned recognition as the World’s Best New Course in 2020.
Project Outcome
Set right on the shoreline of Hoi An in central Vietnam, (45 minutes south of Danang International Airport) the course is a links design with limited vegetation and rolling dunes.
Course building techniques preserved the existing dune and sand pine terrain making holes play through the Casuarina trees and brush native to the area. Other holes, especially the finishing ones, come up right along the seas and play inside the coastal dunes.
Hole 16 is one of the courses best holes and is one of four located right on the water’s edge.
The golf experience is first-class with facilities and service characteristic of a 5-star luxury resort, or better. Hoiana Shores makes a welcome addition to the golf coast Vietnam, which is already known for the best golf in Vietnam.
